I joined the Painter's Union as a Journeyman in 1995. From 1996 through 2004 I was a lead foreman for one of Portland's most established commercial painting contractors. I have been responsible for multiple retail projects in downtown Portland, countless warehouses, a large number of schools in the metro area and the Oregon Coast, several government offices, and a few police facilities. My largest single project as a Union foreman was painting Sears at Lloyd Center Mall, inside and out. My most challenging was simultaneously painting Astoria High School and Warrenton K-8 School with a skeleton crew in a race against time with the Pacific Coast's constant autumn rain.
I won.
I place a high value on my years as a commercial foreman. It's a highly competitive field, and it taught me to paint smart. The product knowledge gained, personal contacts made, and professional Union training on virtually every discipline in the painting field has served me well. In 2009, I plan on increasing Eco Paint's commercial visibility. I'll continue to incorporate on those projects what I've learned about environmentally friendly paint practices, even as I apply my commercial high-production techniques to Eco Paint's residential projects.
Recent photos:
I coated the exterior of this commercial building in St. Johns with an environmentally friendly waterproofing elastomeric paint made by a local manufacturer:
Before I painted here, the sun had baked the paint down to the block, and wind-driven rain was penetrating through to the interior walls. Not any longer - elastomeric paint is a synthetic rubber applied 1/16" to 1/8" thick.
This architect's office ceiling and walls in Old Town is painted with low-voc products:
The recently sandblasted beams have a natural finish:
This local Portland government office was specified with no-voc and low-voc paint:
The walls are no-voc paint; the frames and columns are low-voc.
A growing number of architects and designers specify environmentally friendly products due to local, state, and federal requirements, but find that due to lax enforcement these practices are not actually followed, even when the contractor charges a premium for doing just exactly that.
Eco Paint is not one of those contractors.

It is always best to have professionals handling painting jobs.
